Card sleeves – the first layer of protection for trading cards
Sleeves are the quiet foundation of almost every well-protected collection. They keep the surface, corners and autograph away from direct contact and should form the first layer before a toploader or magnetic holder.
Penny sleeves, thick sleeves and slab bags
Standard penny sleeves fit most regular sports and entertainment cards. Patch, relic and other thick cards need softer, wider sleeves. Graded-card and slab sleeves protect PSA, BGS, SGC and similar cases from scratches, while team bags can hold several cards, toploaders or small sets together. Look for acid-free, archival materials and a fit that is not too tight.
Not every card needs to disappear behind thick acrylic. The right protection follows personal value, use and presentation, from a simple sleeve to a magnetic holder or display case.
Insert the card slowly and without pressure. Clean sleeves are especially important for sensitive chrome surfaces, autographs and glossy parallels before adding another protective layer.
